Lisa was born in Dallas and has lived in the DFW-Metroplex area all her life. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1981. She worked as a paralegal through college and went immediately into law school, having wanted to practice law since she was in her early teens. She attended Austin College, Sherman, Texas for one year but missed the Dallas area. So, she moved back to Arlington and completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, graduating college in 3 ½ years in December, 1984, with Paralegal Specialization at the University of Texas in Arlington. Upon acceptance to the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1985, she moved back to Dallas and completed her Jurisdoctor Degree in 1988 and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November 1988. She has lived in Dallas ever since.

She began working as an intern at Watkins & Watkins in her last year of law school. She continued working at Watkins & Watkins for six years. When Lisa left Watkins & Watkins to open her own practice, she had the good fortune to move to the offices of Sullivan & Cook, LLC where she has been a solo practitioner and of counsel since 1993. She also dedicates some of her time to pro-bono legal services in the community.

Lisa has earned court appointments of various kinds from various Judges in Dallas County Courts and has given seminars in some of these areas of practice. She sat as a visiting judge for Hon. Bill Bedard, Judge of the Probate Court #3. She is also a member of the Dallas Bar Association.
Lisa is married to Rex Gunter, also an attorney practicing in Dallas County who specializes in defending individuals accused of crimes. Together they enjoy their families and two new grandchildren!

In her spare time, she enjoys training and showing Belgian Sheepdogs and her dogs have won in various venues all over the United States. She has bred and owned Belgians that were annually number one in their areas of competition. She is a lifetime member of the Belgian Sheepdog Club of America and a member of the Trinity Valley Belgian Sheepdog Club, where she has also served as an officer for many years. She is the Southern Coordinator for the Belgian Sheepdog Rescue Trust where she rescues and re-homes Belgian Sheepdogs from various shelters in her six state area. She has met and values many friends both in the legal community and in the dog show/performance venues.
